GITAM Bengaluru Marks National Unity Day with ‘Run for Unity’

Bengaluru: GITAM (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru Campus, in collaboration with the Police Department, organized a “Run for Unity” on October 31 to commemorate National Unity Day and honor the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of integrated India.

The event aimed to foster national integration, solidarity, and civic responsibility among students, faculty, and law enforcement personnel. Over 400 students and staff members from GITAM joined close to 150 police personnel for the run, which was flagged off from the university campus and proceeded to the District Commissioner’s Office and back.

Distinguished guests included Basavaraju, IAS – Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru Rural District, and C. K. Baba, IPS – Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru District. They were joined by Additional SPs, DSPs, and senior officers who emphasized the importance of unity in building a strong and inclusive nation.

Addressing the gathering, Basavaraju highlighted unity as the foundation of national strength, while C. K. Baba commended GITAM for promoting civic awareness and community engagement. Nagraj K.S, Additional SP, Bengaluru Rural, also spoke on the values of peace and brotherhood, extending special thanks to Ravi P, DSP, and Sadiq Pasha, Circle Inspector, for their active support.

Vijay Gejji, Resident Director, GITAM Bengaluru, said, “The ‘Run for Unity’ reflects our commitment to shaping responsible citizens who uphold the values of integrity and service. We thank the Police Department for their collaboration in inspiring youth participation in nation-building.”

Prof. KNS Acharya, Pro Vice-Chancellor, added, “The enthusiasm of our students and the support from law enforcement made this event truly memorable. Such partnerships reinforce our mission to nurture socially conscious youth.”

The event concluded with the Unity Pledge, reaffirming the participants’ dedication to national integrity and peace.
