VS Hospitals Holds 4-km Walkathon in Chennai to Mark World Heart Day
Chennai: VS Hospitals organised a four-kilometre awareness walkathon in Tondiarpet to mark World Heart Day and promote awareness about heart health and timely medical care.
Former Director General of Police C. Sylendra Babu, IPS, flagged off the walkathon at VS Multi-Speciality Hospital, Tondiarpet. More than 300 people, including doctors, healthcare professionals and members of the public, participated.
During the event, the hospital launched its ‘Emergency Na Mudhalla VS’ campaign along with an emergency helpline, 044-6969-8000. The initiative focuses on raising awareness about responding to medical emergencies and seeking appropriate care without delay.
The hospital said it plans to conduct demonstration sessions covering common cardiac, neurological and trauma emergencies, along with first-response measures for the public.
Speaking at the event, Sylendra Babu encouraged people of all age groups to make physical activity a regular part of their routine and highlighted the importance of maintaining a disciplined and healthy lifestyle.
Prof. Dr. S. Sundar, Medical Director, VS Hospitals, said awareness about health emergencies and timely medical intervention can play an important role in critical situations. He said the campaign aims to help people recognise common emergencies and make timely decisions about seeking medical care.
The event was attended by Prof. Dr. S. Subramanian, Chairman and Managing Director, VS Hospitals; Prof. Dr. S. Sundar, Medical Director; Muthu Subramanian, Executive Director; and Prassanna Srinivasan, Group COO.
World Heart Day is observed annually on September 29 to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases and their warning signs. The 2026 theme is “Heart diseases can hide in plain sight: Don’t miss a beat.”
