AIUPMA Flags Surge in Chinese uPVC Imports, Seeks Urgent Government Action

Chennai: The All India uPVC Profile Manufacturers Association (AIUPMA) has raised concerns over the sharp rise in uPVC window profile imports, warning that domestic manufacturers are under severe stress due to low-priced imports, largely from China.

Addressing a press conference in Chennai, association representatives said India imported around 1.6 lakh metric tonnes of uPVC profiles in 2025, with nearly 99% originating from China. The surge has pushed the market share of Indian manufacturers below 50%, while imports now account for 51%.

AIUPMA President Eniyan Shivam said imported products are being sold at prices lower than domestic production and even raw material costs, creating an uneven playing field. He warned that if the trend continues, the sustainability of India’s uPVC manufacturing sector could be at risk.

The association attributed the situation to the current duty structure, where raw materials attract higher anti-dumping duties, while finished products imported from China face lower duties, giving them a pricing advantage.

AIUPMA also raised concerns over the quality of imported products, stating that some deteriorate within two to three years, affecting consumer trust and the reputation of the segment.

Highlighting the impact, the association said domestic manufacturers are operating at nearly 57% idle capacity, leading to underutilised plants and financial strain across the value chain.

The body has urged the government to take immediate corrective measures, including mandatory BIS certification, introduction of a Minimum Import Price (MIP), and a review of the anti-dumping duty structure. It also called for an anti-dumping investigation and stricter quality checks at ports.

The issue has also been raised in Parliament by K. E. Prakash, drawing national attention to the challenges faced by the sector.

AIUPMA said urgent intervention is essential to protect domestic manufacturing, MSMEs, and the livelihoods of thousands employed across the industry.
