A.R. Rahman Performs at RECHARGE 2026, Draws 18,000 Students at Rajalakshmi Engineering College

Chennai: Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Thandalam, hosted RECHARGE 2026, a large-scale cultural fest that drew over 18,000 students on its opening day, marking a significant moment in India’s college cultural scene.

In a rare highlight, globally acclaimed composer A. R. Rahman performed live on a college campus, making it a landmark event for collegiate festivals in the country. His performance headlined an evening that blended music, art, and student engagement at an unprecedented scale.

The event also featured performances by noted artists including Shweta Mohan, Rakshita Suresh, Amrutha Suresh, Nakul Abhyankar, Blaaze, Haricharan, Aditya R K, Nitesh Aher, and A. R. Ameen, who kept the audience engaged throughout the evening.

Organisers said the festival was designed as a platform to showcase creativity and talent, bringing together established performers and emerging artists.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chairman Abhay Meganathan said the event reflects the institution’s commitment to providing large-scale experiential opportunities for students and setting new benchmarks for college culturals in India.

Following the response to Day 1, the festival continues with Day 2 featuring dance icon Prabhu Deva, along with appearances by Nikki Galrani, Sayyeshaa, Shriya Saran, and others. A special performance will also see faculty members and the college dance team “Rugged” share the stage with Prabhu Deva.

Executive Director Tejshree Abhay Meganathan said the initiative aims to promote creativity, confidence, and holistic development among students.

With RECHARGE 2026, the college has set a new scale for campus cultural events, highlighting Chennai’s growing prominence in hosting large youth-centric experiences.
