Filmmaker Atlee Honored with Doctorate by Sathyabama University
Chennai: Renowned filmmaker Atlee was conferred with an honorary doctorate by Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai during its 34th convocation ceremony. The prestigious recognition was awarded in recognition of his immense contribution to the Indian film industry.
The prestigious recognition was awarded during the 34th convocation ceremony held on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The university’s Chancellor, Dr Mariazeena Johnson, presented the the honorary doctorate certificate and commemorative plaque in the presence of of President Dr. Marie Johnson
Atlee expressed his gratitude and humility, saying, “It’s surreal to be honoured by the same university where I once walked in as a student with big dreams. It was here that I learned the power of belief.” He also gave an emotional shoutout to his family, thanking his parents, wife Priya, and son for their support.
Atlee also shared details about his upcoming film with Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone, tentatively titled AA22 x A6, produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. “This is the most-expensive film, we are bringing in all the new technologies in it,” he said.
The 34th convocation ceremony saw 5031 students receiving their degrees, including 4221 undergraduate students, 810 postgraduate students, and 79 Ph.D. scholars. 54 exceptional students were at the top of their class, receiving gold medals for their academic excellence.
The university’s Placement Cell achieved remarkable success, with 92.74% of students securing job offers from 380+ companies. The average annual salary package was Rs. 5,70,000, with Amazon offering a maximum package of Rs. 41,20,000.
