Bureau of Indian Standards conducted Manak Mahotsav 5Kms Run for Quality and Standards in Chennai
Chennai: The Bureau of Indian Standards is a statutory body functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates various schemes like Product Certification (ISI mark), Management Systems Certification, Hall Marking of Gold and Silver Jewellery/Artefacts and Laboratory Services for the benefit of the industry and in turn aiming at consumer protection.
BIS Chennai Branch Office conducted a 5 KM Run for Quality Marathon at Besant Nagar. Arjun Kalyan, Indian Chess Grandmaster participated as the Chief Guest and flagged off the Marathon. From BIS, Bhavani, Scientist-F / Sr. Director & Head (Chennai Branch Office) and other officials were present. Around 1000 Runners actively participated in the Run and runners who completed the 5 Km Run were awarded Certificates and Medals.
Every year 14 October is marked as World Standards Day, to appreciate the experts who develop International Standards Worldwide. International Standards is a robust system built on cooperation and collaboration between various stake holders. In India, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), develop and publish Indian Standards, implement Conformity Assessment Schemes, Hallmarking and also run laboratories for Conformity Assessment, thereby empowering consumers and business owners. The uniformity and hallmark of various goods and services ensure quality assurance.
To create awareness about the various schemes and quality assurance programs, Bureau of Indian Standards Chennai Branch Office had conducted Manak Mahotsav Programmes at Chennai, Puducherry and Vellore for various Stakeholders of BIS during October 24.
