Chennai Bulls Unveil Team, Jersey, and Song for Rugby Premier League
Chennai: The Chennai Bulls, the city’s official franchise in the Rugby Premier League (RPL), was formally unveiled to fans at the Madras Cricket Club in Chennai on June 2, 2025. The team launched its official jersey, team song, and addressed the media.
The launch event was attended by prominent guests, including Sendhil V. Thyagarajan, Treasurer of Rugby India; Aadhav Arjuna, Basketball Federation of India (BFI) President & General Secretary of Tamil Nadu Olympics Association; Akshit Sharma from the Chennai Bulls’ leadership group; Ben Gollings, Head Coach of Chennai Bulls; and Vinay Rai, local movie star and former Indian rugby player.
Akshit Sharma stated that the Chennai Bulls aims to transform India’s sporting landscape with world-class infrastructure, coaching, and fan engagement. Head Coach Ben Gollings emphasized the excitement of Rugby 7s, focusing on building a strong team and being the best version of themselves on the pitch.
Several dignitaries shared their thoughts on the occasion. Akshit Sharma said, “Chennai Bulls is more than just a rugby team, it’s a step toward transforming the sporting landscape in India.” Ben Gollings added, “Rugby 7s is such an exciting format—fast-paced, skill-heavy, and perfect for uplifting the profile of the sport in any corner of the world.” Sendhil V. Thyagarajan noted, “Rugby in India is a much-loved sport, with plenty of potential and interest, across the country.” Aadhav Arjuna highlighted the importance of exposing national players to high-level competition, while Vinay Rai emphasized the value of dedication and hard work.
The Rugby Premier League (RPL) is scheduled to take place from June 15 to 29, 2025, at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai. Six teams will compete in the maiden season.
The Chennai Bulls squad consists of international players Terry Kennedy, Joseva Talacolo, Ratu Sauturaga, and Joaquin Pellandini, as well as local players Vallabh Patil, Shanawaz Ahmed, Vinayak Hariraj, Muhammed Jasim EP, Vinay A, Hannes Adler, Haakon Oeß, Nikias Lohe, and Alexander Davis.
