Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre Launches Genomic Lifestyle Counselling Programme
Chennai: Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre has launched Genomic Lifestyle Counselling (GLC), an innovative initiative aimed at integrating genetic insights with personalized lifestyle interventions to prevent and manage metabolic diseases.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. V. Mohan, Chairman of the institution, said healthcare is rapidly shifting from a generalized treatment model to precision-based care. He explained that advances in genomic science now enable doctors to understand an individual’s susceptibility to conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease, allowing for more personalized and effective preventive strategies.
He also highlighted that India faces a growing burden of diabetes and obesity, and innovative approaches such as Genomic Lifestyle Counselling could play a key role in enabling predictive, preventive and personalized healthcare.
Dr. R. M. Anjana, Managing Director, explained that the GLC programme combines genomic risk assessment with structured lifestyle modification plans, including diet optimization, physical activity guidance and behavioural counselling. This integrated model helps identify early health risks and equips individuals with scientifically guided strategies to delay or prevent metabolic disorders.
Meanwhile, Dr. Geeta Dharmatti, Nutrigenomic Counsellor, said the programme uses nutrigenomics to design customized dietary plans based on gene–nutrient interactions. This approach ensures that nutrition advice is aligned with each individual’s metabolic profile while providing continuous counselling support to improve adherence and measurable health outcomes.
The launch of the Genomic Lifestyle Counselling programme marks another milestone in the institution’s 35-year commitment to research-driven innovation and comprehensive diabetes care. By incorporating precision medicine principles into routine clinical practice, the centre aims to strengthen preventive healthcare standards in India.
