Dr Soosan Jacob Appointed President of International Society of Refractive Surgery

Chennai: Dr Soosan Jacob has been appointed President of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), marking a major global recognition for Indian ophthalmology. Her elevation to the top leadership role underscores India’s growing influence and leadership in the rapidly advancing field of refractive surgery.

ISRS is a premier global professional organisation committed to advancing the art, science and ethical practice of refractive, corneal, cataract and lens-based surgery. With members across more than 90 countries, the society plays a pivotal role in promoting clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, continuous professional development and improved standards of patient care worldwide.

Dr Jacob becomes only the second Indian ophthalmologist to be elected President of ISRS, following renowned eye surgeon Dr Amar Agarwal. The milestone highlights the sustained contribution of Indian clinicians and researchers to global eye care and reinforces India’s position as a hub for clinical innovation and leadership in ophthalmology.

Expressing her gratitude on the appointment, Dr Soosan Jacob, Director and Chief of the Dr Agarwals Refractive & Cornea Foundation, said, “It is an honour to lead the International Society of Refractive Surgery at a time when refractive and cataract surgery are witnessing rapid advancements globally.
