Honeywell to Supply Automation Systems for UK Carbon Capture Flagship Projects
Mumbai: Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) has been selected by Technip Energies to deliver integrated automation and safety technologies for two of the UK’s most ambitious carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects – Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP).
Honeywell’s Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) will provide a unified automation architecture combining process control and safety functions, ensuring reliable and efficient operations across both sites.
The NZT Power project, based in Teesside, is set to become the world’s first gas-fired power station equipped with carbon capture technology. Once operational, it will generate more than 740 megawatts of low-carbon power – enough to meet the annual electricity needs of over one million UK homes – while capturing up to two million tonnes of CO₂ each year. Captured emissions will be transported and stored by NEP, the UK’s first CO₂ transportation and storage project.
The NEP initiative will serve as the backbone of the East Coast Cluster, transporting CO₂ from multiple industrial sites across Teesside and Humber to offshore storage beneath the North Sea. Honeywell’s technology will be integrated into the new CO₂ transport and storage network, which includes onshore pipelines and subsurface saline aquifers.
Menzo Bijmolen, Vice President and General Manager – EMEA, Industrial Automation Projects & Automation Solutions at Honeywell, said:
“The integration of Honeywell technology within these pioneering projects will play a major role in their ability to redefine the future of clean energy in the UK. To deploy innovative carbon capture at scale, it is crucial to have automation technologies that deliver both operational excellence and safety.”
Technip Energies is leading a consortium with GE Vernova and construction partner Balfour Beatty to deliver the EPC contract for both projects. Together, NZT Power and NEP are positioned as cornerstones of the UK’s decarbonization strategy and global benchmarks for CCS infrastructure.
Honeywell’s participation underscores its commitment to advancing the global energy transition through digital and automation solutions. With approximately 4,000 employees across more than 20 UK sites, the company is well placed to support the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambition.
