Free Screening for Hypertension awareness program for the public
Raised blood pressure is the biggest single contributing risk factor to global health
Chennai, 20 May 2024: The World Hypertension League (WHL) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization organized the Free Screening for Hypertension awareness program. Today More than 300 public have attended in the program along with 250 Doctors from various hospitals in Lady Andal Matriculation School at Chetpet, Chennai.
The World Hypertension League (WHL) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to the prevention and control of hypertension globally. Hypertension is a driving force in the global epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and is the leading risk factor for death and disability globally. WHL membership is currently comprised of 80 national hypertension societies who are members of our Council and led by the WHL Executive, Board, Council, and Committees. WHL is a global organization with regional offices in North and South America, China, South East Asia, Sub Saharan Africa, the South Pacific, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
With the purpose of Hypertension Awareness and Control in India, World Hypertension League on the occasion of World Hypertension month is organizing WHL talk. The initiative is supported by many doctors across country as well.

Narasingan, Vice President, World Hypertension League, said Keeping this goal of Hypertension Awareness & Control in India World Hypertension League, World Hypertension League has partnered with Ipca Laboratories Ltd. in building an initiative to educate Indian masses about increasing risk of Hypertension leading many heart complications which can be fatal to life is ignored or left untreated. Its purpose is to communicate to the public the importance of hypertension and its serious medical complications, and to provide information on its prevention, detection, and management.
Hypertension Control Initiative in India by Building Awareness in Society, as per World Health Organization report for South East Asia with focus on India mentions that it’s estimated that at least one in four adults in India has hypertension 1, but, only about 12% of them have their blood pressure under control 2. India has set a target of 25% relative reduction in the prevalence of hypertension (raised blood pressure) by 20253
