IIRSI 2025 Convention on Intraocular Implant & Refractive Surgery Inaugurated

Chennai: The Indian Intraocular Implant & Refractive Surgery Convention 2025 (IIRSI Convention) was inaugurated by Anil Kumar Bachoo, Minister of Health & Wellness, Government of Mauritius, and Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services of Tamil Nadu. The two-day convention, India’s premier event on eye surgery, brought together over 1,000 leading ophthalmologists, surgeons, researchers, and experts from around the world.

The convention featured a wide range of activities, including foreign faculty lectures, live surgery, and hands-on wetlab focusing on cataract, refractive, and intraocular implantation. Additionally, the event included the Ophthalmic Premier League, IIRSI Film Festival Award Show (IFFA), IIRSI photography competition, and exclusive sessions for young ophthalmologists. Ophthalmologists were also recognized with awards for their exceptional contributions to various eye care specializations.

Anil Kumar Bachoo, Minister of Health & Wellness, Government of Mauritius, praised the convention, saying, “It’s a privilege to witness the unifying power of medicine and shared values between many nations. India’s advancements in healthcare continues to inspire global collaboration.”

Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services of Tamil Nadu, added, “Tamil Nadu has long been a flagbearer in healthcare, leading with innovation and inclusivity. Together, public institutions and private pioneers are working together to make a future right for everyone and not a privilege for a few.”

The event honored Indian and global ophthalmologists with Gold Medal Awards for their contributions to their specialization. The international awardees include Dr. Stephen McLeod, Dr. Abha Amin, and Dr. Cosimo Mazzotta, among others. Indian awardees include Dr. Jagdish Rana, Dr. Manoj Mathur, and Dr. Col. Jaya Kaushik, among others. The IIRSI Convention provided a platform for ophthalmologists and healthcare professionals to collaborate, share knowledge, and forge meaningful partnerships for healthcare in India and abroad.
