IIT Mandi and Art of Living Foundation Collaborate on Consciousness and Mental Well-being Research

Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Art of Living Foundation to advance research in consciousness and mental well-being. This collaboration was announced during the Mind, Brain, and Consciousness Conference (MBCC 2025), a four-day interdisciplinary conference that brings together leading scientists, scholars, thinkers, and spiritual leaders from around the world.

Key Highlights of the Conference

  • Interdisciplinary Discussions: The conference features keynote talks, plenary talks, and invited talks by renowned experts in the fields of science, consciousness studies, neuroscience, mental health, and Indian philosophical wisdom.
  • Research Presentations: Over 110 full paper presentations and 60 poster presentations will showcase cutting-edge research in consciousness and mental well-being.
  • Thematic Sessions: 12 special sessions will focus on topics such as cognitive biomarkers, neuroimaging, AI and consciousness, Ayurvedic psychiatry, and reincarnation studies.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation, emphasized the importance of spirituality in mind and consciousness, stating, “Science now agrees that spirituality plays a vital role in mind and consciousness. Happiness is a concept of consciousness, nurtured through meditation, sattvic food, and pranayama.”

Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi, highlighted the significance of consciousness in science and self-realization, saying, “Without consciousness, the body is nothing. MBCC 2025 opens pathways for practical education, innovation, and interdisciplinary research rooted in Indian knowledge systems.”

The MoU between IIT Mandi and the Art of Living Foundation aims to strengthen collaboration in consciousness and mental well-being research. This partnership will leverage the expertise of both organizations to advance our understanding of consciousness and promote mental well-being.
