JICA Hosts Fourth Edition of JICA Chair at O.P. Jindal Global University
Chennai: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held the fourth JICA Chair lecture at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), Sonipat, on September 15, 2025. The program, themed “In the Age of Uncertainty: The Role of Japan in the Indo-Pacific,” brought together 180 participants to explore Japan’s innovative economic policies, business frameworks, and global impact.
Keynote Lecture
Professor Takahara Akio, a leading expert on contemporary Chinese politics and East Asian international relations, delivered the keynote lecture. He introduced Japan’s vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, emphasizing the importance of human security and the rule of law in shaping a stable regional order. Drawing from his extensive academic and diplomatic experience, Prof. Takahara provided deep insights into Japan’s development experience and regional diplomacy.
Collaboration and Knowledge-Sharing
Takeuchi Takuro, Chief Representative of JICA India, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that the JICA Chair facilitates knowledge-sharing and deepens India-Japan intellectual engagement. The event aimed to promote Japanese studies and foster academic exchange between Japan and India.
Event Highlights
- The program commenced with a warm welcome from Professor Sriparna Pathak from JGU, followed by opening remarks from the Dean, Ambassador (Dr.) Abdul Fattah Ammourah, Vice Dean, Jindal School of International Affairs.
- Jiro Kodera, Economic Counsellor from the Embassy of Japan, and Wakamatsu Eiji, Senior Representative of JICA India, offered their remarks, emphasizing the importance of Japan-India academic collaboration.
- The Vice Chancellor of JGU, Professor C. Raj Kumar, addressed the gathering with a special message.
- The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session and a vote of thanks by Professor Debendra Sahu of JGU.
