Chennai: In a landmark achievement for Indian cardiac care, Kauvery Hospital, Radial Road, Chennai, has successfully performed a life-saving procedure using MyClip, India’s first indigenously developed mitral valve repair device. The patient—a 58-year-old woman suffering from severe mitral regurgitation (MR), kidney failure, and liver complications—was deemed unfit for open-heart surgery or transplant due to her fragile condition.
For three years, she endured breathlessness, fatigue, and swelling, with limited treatment options. The minimally invasive MyClip procedure, performed by Prof. Dr Ajith Pillai, Chief Cardiologist & HOD, marked a dramatic turnaround. The device was inserted via a small tube through a blood vessel, avoiding the risks of open surgery. Post-procedure, the patient regained mobility and quality of life.
A “Make in India” Milestone
Developed by Indian med-tech company Meril and approved in June 2025, MyClip offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive imported mitral clips. This breakthrough aligns with the Make in India initiative, expanding access to advanced cardiac care for millions.
“Patients with severe MR often face high surgical risks due to age and co-morbidities. MyClip offers a safe, non-surgical solution with life-saving potential,” said Prof. Dr Ajith Pillai.
