Student-Driven Milan 2026 Opens at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Showcasing Teamwork Behind One of India’s Largest Cultural Festivals

Kattankulathur: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) inaugurated Milan 2026, its flagship national-level cultural festival, on February 19 at its Kattankulathur campus. Now in its 18th edition, Milan continues its legacy as one of India’s largest student-run cultural festivals, coinciding with SRMIST’s 40th year of academic excellence.

Held under the theme “Live the Change: Indian Maximalism,” Milan 2026 has attracted over 60,000 students from 350 colleges across 28 Indian states and more than 60 countries, underscoring its growing global reach.

The grand inaugural ceremony, held at 6:30 PM, was graced by actress Sreeleela, who lauded the scale, inclusivity, and vibrant spirit of the festival. She described SRMIST as a truly pan-India institution fostering diversity and creativity, and commended students for successfully organizing an event of such magnitude.

The event was attended by Padma Priya Ravi; Manimangai Sathyanarayanan; Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST; Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST; and Dr. Nisha Ashokan, Director, Directorate of Student Affairs, along with student coordinators representing various faculties.

Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRM Group, stated that platforms like Milan extend learning beyond classrooms by enabling students to explore creativity, strengthen leadership skills, and transform ideas into action, reflecting the institution’s motto, “Learn. Leap. Lead.”

Organised by the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA), Milan 2026 highlights student leadership, with students overseeing planning and execution. Dr. Nisha Ashokan noted that the festival exemplifies the spirit, teamwork, and professionalism of SRMIST students.

The opening night featured a live concert by music composer Mithoon, marking his first-ever performance in Chennai. He performed popular tracks including “Tum Hi Ho” (Aashiqui 2), “Galliyan” (Ek Villain), “Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga” (Half Girlfriend), and “Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage” (Kabir Singh), drawing enthusiastic applause from thousands in attendance.

Day 2 (February 20) will see a live performance by composer Santhosh Narayanan, known for his innovative soundtracks in films such as Jigarthanda, Kabali, Kaala, Vikram Vedha, and Karnan.

Day 3 (February 21) will feature performances by indie band Office Gaana and DJ Viola, promising high-energy entertainment.

The festival will conclude on February 22 with a valedictory ceremony attended by actress Anishma Anilkumar, where winners of various competitions will be honoured.

Milan 2026 continues to stand as a celebration of youth, creativity, and cultural diversity, reinforcing SRMIST’s commitment to holistic student development.
