NTT DATA Report Highlights C-Suite Misalignment Over GenAI Adoption

Mumbai: A recent report by NTT DATA reveals a significant disconnect among C-suite leaders regarding the adoption of Generative AI (GenAI) in businesses. While CEOs are optimistic about GenAI’s potential, Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) express concerns about security risks and infrastructure challenges.

Key Findings

  • CEO Optimism: 99% of C-suite executives plan to invest further in GenAI over the next two years, with 67% of CEOs planning significant commitments.
  • CISO Concerns: Nearly half of CISOs (45%) express negative sentiments toward GenAI adoption, citing unclear internal guidelines and policies.
  • Operational Readiness: 69% of CISOs acknowledge that their teams lack the necessary skills to work with GenAI, and only 38% say their GenAI and cybersecurity strategies are aligned.
  • Legacy Infrastructure: 88% of security leaders say legacy infrastructure is affecting business agility and GenAI readiness.

“As organizations accelerate GenAI adoption, cybersecurity must be embedded from the outset to reinforce resilience,” said Sheetal Mehta, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Cybersecurity at NTT DATA, Inc.

“Collaboration is highly valued by line-of-business leaders in their relationships with CISOs,” said Craig Robinson, Research Vice President, Security Services at IDC. “Alignment with business leaders is essential for implementation.”

To navigate these obstacles, 64% of CISOs are prioritizing co-innovation with strategic IT partners rather than relying on standalone AI solutions. Security leaders’ top criteria when assessing GenAI technology partners include end-to-end GenAI service offerings.
