Penang and Chennai Strengthen Tourism Ties Through Media Familiarization Trip
Chennai: A group of 11 media organizations from Penang embarked on a media familiarization trip to Chennai, India, from March 3-5, 2025, to promote tourism and cultural exchange between the two destinations.
The trip, which coincides with the launch of IndiGo Airlines‘ direct flight connecting Penang and Chennai, aims to generate interest among Penangites in Chennai as a vibrant travel destination. The media delegation visited iconic attractions in Chennai, including Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Kanchipuram, a city renowned for its magnificent temples.
The media trip aims to showcase Chennai’s diverse attractions, rich cultural heritage, and unique travel experiences, inspiring travelers and promoting cross-border tourism growth.
YB Wong Yuee Harng, Director of Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau, said, “The Penang State Government fully supports this initiative, which is part of our commitment to sustaining direct connectivity with Chennai.”
