Plaksha University Launches DS Brar Center for Girls and Women in STEM with Mphasis
Mumbai: Plaksha University, in partnership with Mphasis, has unveiled the DS Brar Center for Girls and Women in STEM, aiming to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields.
The center seeks to inspire, educate, and empower girls and women to pursue STEM careers, addressing the underrepresentation of women in these fields. According to statistics, only 28% of engineering graduates in India are women, and women make up just 22% of professionals in cutting-edge fields like AI.
The DS Brar Center will offer a robust support network, including role models from government, academia, and industry. The center’s flagship program, the GWiST (Girls and Women in STEM) Fellowship – She Innovates, will provide a 3-month accelerator boot camp, masterclasses, and mentorship sessions for women entrepreneurs.
Prof. Rudra Pratap, Vice Chancellor of Plaksha University, emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive ecosystem, aiming to achieve 50% enrollment of women in its programs.
Nitin Rakesh, CEO and Managing Director of Mphasis, highlighted the importance of driving purposeful innovation and addressing systemic challenges to empower young women in STEM careers.
The DS Brar Center builds upon the Mphasis Foundation’s two-decade-long commitment to promoting inclusion and STEM education for girls and women.
