Rasanai Unveils ‘Thoonga Nagaram’ – A Madurai Street Food Festival Celebrating Hyper-Local Flavours

Chennai: Rasanai, the premium South Indian culinary destination, presents ‘Thoonga Nagaram’, a Madurai Street Food Festival running from 14th to 25th January 2026 across its outlets in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Kochi. Inspired by Madurai’s legendary night markets, the festival pays homage to the city’s bustling after-dark food culture, where cooking, eating, and social gathering continue deep into the night.

The festival’s name, Thoonga Nagaram—meaning “The City That Never Sleeps”—reflects Madurai’s vibrant street food ecosystem, spanning iconic neighbourhoods such as Naalangadi, Allangadi, Simmakkal, and Thallakulam.

Focusing on hyper-local authenticity, the festival showcases Madurai’s signature street and kadai-style dishes, crafted by generations of small vendors and family kitchens. Highlights include Saurashtra Mullu Murungai Vadai, Power Kadai Kaadi Chops, and non-vegetarian specialities like Ayirai Meen Kozhambu with Mallipoo Idly and Konar Kadai Gola Urundai. The carefully curated menu brings out Madurai’s robust, spice-forward, ingredient-driven character.

Other festival highlights include Aadhikalathu Mittai Halwa served with Madurai Mixture and Urulai Pottalam, reflecting the city’s century-old snack traditions, alongside Madurai Ennai Sukka with Virudhunagar Poricha Parotta, a street-style wrap blending neighbouring culinary influences.
