Rela Hospital’s Awareness Walkathon Champions Organ Donation

Chennai: Rela Hospital organized an Awareness Walkathon to commemorate World Organ Donation Day, drawing over 400 participants, including college students, faculty, doctors, and hospital staff. The 5-km walkathon aimed to amplify the message on organ donation and encourage individuals to pledge their organs.

A Call to Action

Samay Singh Meena IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tambaram Commissionerate, flagged off the walkathon, emphasizing the need for awareness and education on organ donation. Dr. DC Gauthaman, Medical Director, Rela Hospital, highlighted the impact of organ donation, saying it can transform multiple lives and restore families.

Organ Donation: A Lifesaving Act

Organ donation can save up to eight lives through vital organ transplants. India achieved a notable milestone of performing over 18,900 organ transplants in 2024, ranking third globally in total number of organ transplants. Despite this, the demand for organs far exceeds availability, making awareness and pledging essential.
