Schneider Electric Report Reveals Homeowners Not Utilizing Available Technology to Reduce Energy Costs and Emissions

Mumbai: Schneider Electric, a leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, has released a report highlighting the gap between awareness and action among homeowners when it comes to energy efficiency.

The report, based on a survey of 13,000 people across 11 countries, including 1,000 respondents from India, found that while 82% of respondents consider energy efficiency important, only a few are taking impactful actions to reduce their energy consumption.

The survey revealed that homeowners are focusing on minor actions, such as turning off lights (58%) and unplugging unused chargers (48%), which have minimal impact on energy savings. In contrast, only 44% regularly adjust their ambient temperatures, despite this being one of the highest-impact actions.

The report also highlighted a lack of awareness about home energy technology, with 52% of consumers believing that smart lighting enhances energy efficiency, while only 21% own a smart thermostat, which can reduce bills by up to 30% annually.

Sumati Sahgal, Vice President, Retail, Schneider Electric India, emphasized the need to empower homeowners with knowledge on how to bring efficiency in their energy consumption, and highlighted Schneider Electric’s commitment to bridging this gap through innovative solutions.
