Shree Cement Scales Up Green Ambitions with New 6 MW Solar Facility

Shree Cement Ltd., one of India’s leading cement producers, has commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand. The plant marks a significant step forward in the company’s journey towards its RE100 targets and decarbonization goals.

The solar capacity at the Roorkee facility has grown sevenfold from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp, with Shree Cement’s total solar footprint now standing at an impressive 293.5 MWp. The plant is expected to reduce reliance on grid power and offset around 6,500 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

According to Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement, “Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term energy resilience. Projects like this not only benefit the environment but also create local jobs and contribute to inclusive economic growth.”

The solar power plant was developed with a capital investment of approximately ₹16 crore. This milestone represents a significant advance in Shree Cement’s pursuit of energy self-sufficiency and its unwavering commitment to building a sustainable, greener future.
