SRM Institute of Science and Technology Signs MoU with Big Bang Boom Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to Advance Deep-Tech Research
Kattankulathur: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Big Bang Boom Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (BBBS), a Chennai-based deep-tech defence technology company founded by SRM alumnus R. Shivaraman, to collaborate on advanced research, innovation, and technology development.
The MoU was signed by S. Ponnusamy, Registrar of SRMIST, and Sivakumar Natarajan, Executive Vice President of BBBS, in the presence of faculty members and officials from both organisations.

The partnership aligns with the vision of C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor of SRMIST, to strengthen meaningful academia–industry collaborations that translate academic research into real-world technological solutions and contribute to India’s innovation ecosystem.
Under the agreement, SRMIST will serve as a Knowledge Partner to BBBS, supporting the company’s ongoing and future initiatives in product development, research, and innovation. The collaboration aims to enhance academia–industry engagement while contributing to the development of indigenous deep-tech capabilities in India.
The partnership will focus on emerging technology areas including defence and security technologies, artificial intelligence and data platforms, quantum computing, nuclear technologies, space technologies, and advanced analytics-driven innovation ecosystems.
Faculty members, research scholars, and domain experts from SRMIST will contribute as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to BBBS projects, providing academic expertise to support research and technology development. The collaboration will also create internship opportunities for postgraduate students and research scholars, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in real-world deep-tech and defence innovation projects.
In addition, BBBS may engage SRMIST experts for research collaborations, advisory roles, and project-based technology development initiatives, creating a strong platform for knowledge exchange.
The collaboration was facilitated by Leenus Jesu Martin, who played a key role in identifying areas of technological cooperation. The initiative was further supported by Rathinam A. and the Directorate of Alumni Affairs team, strengthening the alumni–industry connection that led to the partnership.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ponnusamy noted that collaborations between academia and industry are increasingly critical for driving innovation, adding that such partnerships help bridge the traditional gap between academic research and real-world technological applications.
Natarajan highlighted the importance of engaging with academic institutions to accelerate research and innovation in emerging technology sectors. He said institutions such as SRMIST offer strong research capabilities, a vibrant innovation ecosystem, and access to talented students and faculty essential for advancing cutting-edge technology development.
Founded by SRM alumni R. Shivaraman and Praveen Dwarakanath, BBBS focuses on developing advanced technologies in areas such as electronic warfare, autonomous systems, materials science, and defence technology solutions.
The partnership is also expected to contribute to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission by supporting the indigenous development of deep-tech and defence technologies.
Through this initiative, SRMIST continues to strengthen its Alumni–Industry–Academia ecosystem, creating new opportunities for students, researchers, and innovators while contributing to national technological advancement.
