TANENERGY SUMMIT 2025 Highlights Green Energy, Nuclear Push for Tamil Nadu’s $1‑Trillion Vision
Chennai: The FICCI Tamil Nadu State Council hosted the 15th TANENERGY SUMMIT 2025 in Chennai, focusing on how green energy and green manufacturing can power Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a $1‑trillion economy.
The summit brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, global experts, and innovators to discuss renewable energy, sustainability, policy reforms, and emerging technologies.
Green Energy as Economic Backbone
FICCI TN Chairman Dr. GSK Velu said clean and reliable energy would be central to Tamil Nadu’s growth.
“Green energy ensures uninterrupted power, cleaner air, healthier communities, and lower long‑term healthcare costs,” he said, calling for a balanced mix of renewables, nuclear, LNG, AI‑driven efficiency, and storage solutions.
AI, Efficiency, and Nuclear Stability
Energy Panel Convener M. Nandakumar said green energy and green manufacturing will define the next decade. He highlighted Tamil Nadu’s leadership in renewables but noted challenges such as tariffs and climate risks.
He stressed the growing role of AI, data analytics, and digital tools, and said nuclear energy is emerging as a key pillar for grid stability.
Nuclear Sector Opening Creates New Opportunities
COSIDICI DG Hans Raj Verma said the summit comes at a crucial moment following the introduction of the Shanthi Atomic Bill.
He said opening up the nuclear sector will create major opportunities for MSMEs, technology localisation, and zero‑carbon manufacturing, adding that India’s thorium reserves position it for global leadership.
Former NSA Calls for Nuclear Rebalancing
Former NSA M. K. Narayanan urged greater emphasis on nuclear energy in India’s energy mix.
He pointed to Russia’s assurance of uninterrupted nuclear fuel supply and India’s progress in thorium, modular reactors, and fast breeder technologies, calling it the beginning of a “nuclear renaissance.”
Advanced Technologies to Shape Future
Padma Bhushan Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai highlighted India’s advances in hydrogen, nuclear, defence, and space technologies.
He called for accelerated deployment of CO₂‑to‑methanol, methane reduction, ocean energy, thermal storage, and zero‑emission power plants, predicting India could have its own fusion reactors by 2035.
Strong Industry Participation
Around 200 delegates from renewable energy, clean tech, manufacturing, mobility, AI, ESG, nuclear energy, academia, MSMEs, and global missions attended the summit.
