Exclusive Myopia Clinic Launched at Chennai The Eye Foundation, Vadapalani
Chennai: Chennai The Eye Foundation, Eye Hospital in Vadapalani has launched a dedicated clinic for the treatment and management of myopia (short-sightedness), marking a significant step in addressing the growing prevalence of the condition among children.
The clinic’s features and objectives were outlined by Ulaganathan, Vice President of Chennai The Eye Foundation, along with Medical Superintendent and Myopia Specialist Dr. Angeeta Bisali, and Principal Ophthalmologist and Optometrist Rajipinayar. They highlighted that the incidence of myopia has risen sharply—from 5% in 2000 to 25% today—and is projected to exceed 50% by 2050. In response, the hospital has established this exclusive clinic to provide focused care and early intervention.
The Myopia Clinic offers a comprehensive approach to management, including advanced diagnostic eye examinations, prescription of corrective lenses, low-dose atropine drops, myopia control glasses, orthokeratology, and lifestyle guidance to promote outdoor activities and reduce screen time. Regular monitoring and personalized follow-up are also part of the treatment protocol.
Importantly, the clinic provides free eye examinations and consultations for children aged 5 to 15 years. Beyond treatment, the initiative aims to raise awareness about the long-term risks associated with myopia. The expert team of pediatric ophthalmologists and specialists is committed to both prevention and education, ensuring that families are informed and supported throughout the care journey.
