India’s Gifting Trends Evolve: 10 Million Online Orders Placed this Valentine’s Season

Bangalore: India’s gifting habits are undergoing a significant transformation, with online platforms driving the change. According to Unicommerce, over 10 million gifting order items were processed on its Uniware platform in the first 11 days of February 2025.

  1. 24% YoY GMV growth: The overall gifting market has seen a 24% year-over-year growth in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV).
  2. Tier-II cities drive growth: Tier-II cities have driven order volume growth, with a 37% increase in volumes compared to the same period last year.
  3. Popular categories: The most popular categories this Valentine’s Day include:
    • Beauty and makeup
    • Healthy eatables
    • Fitness products
    • Books
    • Jewelry
  4. Personalization on the rise: There is a growing trend towards personalized and custom-curated offerings, with brands offering multiple customization options.
  5. Marketplaces vs. brand websites: Marketplaces have recorded higher volumes across categories, including makeup and jewelry, while brand websites have seen higher value growth.

“Valentine’s remains one of the biggest occasions for gifting in India, and flowers continue to dominate as the preferred choice,” said Tarun Joshi, Founder & CEO of IGP.com

“The online gifting sector in India is playing an important role in driving consumer demand,” added Aditya Labroo, Chief Operating Officer, GIVA.

Market Outlook:

The Indian gifting market is expected to reach USD 92.3 billion by 2030, driven by the growth of online platforms and new-age D2C brands.
