Apollo Teynampet Transitions to Multi-Speciality Hospital, Retains Advanced Cancer Care
Chennai: Apollo Hospitals has transitioned its flagship oncology facility at Teynampet into a comprehensive multi-speciality hospital. The facility, previously known as Apollo Cancer Centre, has been renamed Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Teynampet.
Established in 1993, the Teynampet hospital has provided oncology care for 33 years. Following the expansion, the facility will continue its tertiary and quaternary cancer care services while adding clinical and surgical services across multiple specialities.
The 300-bed hospital includes 51 critical care beds, five operating theatres and a Cath Lab. The expanded clinical services cover Cardiology, Neurology and Neurosciences, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Spine and Orthopaedics, Urology, Critical Care and Internal Medicine.
The launch was attended by Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Darez Ahamed, Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, as Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Arunraj highlighted the need for integrated healthcare systems, noting that patients with complex medical conditions often require coordinated evaluation and treatment across different specialities. He also acknowledged Apollo Hospitals’ contribution of ₹1 crore towards the “Nalam TN” initiative.
Infrastructure Upgrades
The Teynampet facility has undergone upgrades to its diagnostic and therapeutic infrastructure as it expands beyond its earlier focus on oncology.
The additions include an advanced Cath Lab, a dedicated 24/7 stroke care unit, Tamil Nadu’s first Zoom Endoscopy system, an advanced bronchoscopy suite and a specialised Sleep Lab.
The hospital’s existing oncology services will continue, including CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) units, CAR-T Cell Therapy and Da Vinci robotic surgical systems.
Focus on Multi-Speciality Care
Dr. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said the expansion builds on the hospital’s more than three-decade association with cancer care while extending its services to other medical specialities.
She said advances in medicine have made healthcare increasingly specialised and complex, making it important to bring different areas of expertise together around patients.
Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said the co-location of multiple specialities would allow medical teams to collaborate in managing chronic and severe conditions involving multiple organs.
Harshad Reddy, Director – Operations, Group Oncology & International, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said the transition reflects the broader clinical role of the Teynampet hospital, which now brings together cardiac sciences, neurosciences, gastrointestinal and pulmonary medicine, spine and orthopaedics, urology, critical care and internal medicine alongside its established oncology services.
