Bala Rang Tarang ka Indradhanush – An Enchanting Evening of Art, Rhythm, and Splendour
Chennai: Bala Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Adyar, hosted a spectacular cultural extravaganza in the school premises, bringing together a vibrant celebration of talent and tradition. This event aims at providing students with a platform to showcase their artistic talents in music and dance, honed through their Life-Oriented Education (LOE) Classes conducted after school hours. In addition, the members of the school’s Lathangi Club also participated, adding to the vibrancy of the evening.
With nearly 213 students performing, the school had meticulously crafted an amphitheatre-like ambiance, enhancing the aesthetic charm of the celebration and promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees. The cultural extravaganza commenced with an invocation to set the tone for an evening of artistic brilliance. This was followed by the welcome address and lighting of the lamp, preparing the audience for a series of enchanting performances.
The event began with a welcome song, Varugave, set in Hemavathi Ragam and Adi-Thalam, featuring a fusion of dance, vocal, and instrumental performances on the Mridangam, Violin, Flute, and Keyboard. This segment introduced the audience to the melodic and rhythmic richness of Carnatic music, ensuring an engaging start. A variety of instrumental performances from the LOE Classes followed, starting with a Flute recital presenting Geetham – Vara Veena in Mohanam Ragam and Rupaka Talam, accompanied by Mridhangam.
This was followed by a performance from the Primary Junior Keyboard group, featuring Geetham – Malahari Ragam – Rupaka Thalam, Doe a Deer from The Sound of Music, and Swarajathi – Rara Venu in Bilahari Ragam with Adi Thalam. These performances highlighted the musical foundation provided by the LOE Classes.
The evening witnessed a mesmerizing performance of Gajarajane Karunakara , a composition in Brindhavani Ragam and Adi Thalam, blending dance, vocal, and instrumental elements. This performance aims to celebrate the confluence of music and movement, capturing the essence of Indian classical traditions.
Moving beyond classical traditions, the event also featured a song in English, I Have a Dream by ABBA, showcasing vocal and keyboard talent. Additionally, the LOE Guitar segment presented a mix of iconic compositions, including Harry Potter Theme Music, Bella Ciao, Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Music, and Vara Veena in Mohana Ragam with Rupaka Thalam.
The Violin segment brought forth a captivating set of performances featuring Sakthi Sahitha Ganapathi in Shankarabharanam Ragam with Tisra Eka Talam, Lingashtakam, and Shyamale Meenakshi accompanied by Mridhangam.
This was followed by a performance by the Senior Keyboard students of their well-known compositions, including Yuvan Shankar Raja’s Theme Music and Ethir Neechal – Motivation BGM, showcasing their musical expertise. The evening also featured a dedicated segment for Mridhangam performances by the BVM Nandi groups, allowing students to exhibit their mastery over rhythm and percussion. The Symphony – Sarvesha brought a harmonious orchestral experience to the audience, integrating multiple instruments in a grand symphonic arrangement.
The cultural celebration concluded with a spellbinding performance of Shiva Thandavam, blending dance, vocal, and instrumental music, including Mridangam, Violin, Flute, and Keyboard. This performance encapsulated the dynamic and powerful essence of Lord Shiva’s cosmic dance, leaving the audience in awe.
The cultural extravaganza at Bala Vidya Mandir proved to be an evening of artistic splendour, celebrating the diverse musical and dance talents of the students. With an immersive amphitheatre setting and a thoughtfully curated lineup, the event was poised to be a memorable occasion for students, faculty, and parents alike.
