Renowned Economist Jeffrey Sachs Outlines Strategies for a Prosperous and Sustainable India by 2047 at BML Munjal University

New Delhi: BML Munjal University (BMU) hosted the inaugural BML Munjal Memorial Lecture, featuring Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs, who emphasized the need for India to balance development, equity, and environmental sustainability to achieve a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Prof. Sachs, Director, Center for Sustainable Development, Columbia University, highlighted the importance of investing in mass education and technology to drive sustainable growth and inclusive development.

“India’s journey to becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047 requires a bold and adaptive approach, balancing economic growth with sustainability and social equity,” Prof. Sachs said.

The lecture emphasized the need for robust policy frameworks and collaboration between public institutions and the market to achieve equitable growth. Prof. Sachs also stressed the importance of innovation, strategic policymaking, and global and regional cooperation in shaping a resilient and inclusive future for India.

The event was chaired by Prof. Deepak Nayyar, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, who emphasized the need for equal social and economic opportunities and public provision for education and healthcare.

The inaugural BML Munjal Memorial Lecture marked the beginning of a new initiative to inspire critical thinking and innovation in the pursuit of India’s global leadership in sustainable development.
