HDFC Bank’s Parivartan Program Transforms Lives in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: HDFC Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, Parivartan, has positively impacted over 1.4 crore lives in Tamil Nadu, covering 37 out of 38 districts, including two Aspirational Districts, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar. Since 2015, the bank has been actively working in the state, implementing need-based interventions that respond to unique regional challenges.
Key Focus Areas
The Parivartan program focuses on six key areas:
- Rural Development: Supporting farmers with sustainable agriculture practices, farm ponds, check dams, and micro-irrigation systems. Over 24,500 farmers have benefited, with 6,313 acres of land brought under irrigation and 625 acres under chemical-free farming.
- Promotion of Education: Enabling digital learning technology in over 55 schools, benefiting 13,750+ students. STEM labs accessible in sign language have made science and technology education inclusive for children with hearing impairments.
- Skill Training & Livelihood Enhancement: Providing training and support to individuals, with a 60% placement rate for youth with disabilities. Women’s self-help groups producing banana fiber-based products have expanded into global markets, with IKEA sourcing their products.
- Healthcare & Hygiene: Operating a mobile medical unit, Parivartan on Wheels, which has served over 25,000 patients in underserved areas of Chennai. Investments in sanitation infrastructure have improved public health.
- Financial Literacy & Inclusion: Creating awareness about financial fraud through Vigil Aunty, reaching 36.91 lakh+ people.
- Natural Resource Management: Installing solar lights and promoting climate-resilient farming practices.
Impact and Initiatives
The Parivartan program has implemented various initiatives, including:
- Agriculture & Water Management: Supporting farmers with eco-friendly practices, drought-resilient crops, and allied activities like sericulture and beekeeping.
- Empowering Entrepreneurial Women: Collectivizing women producers and providing seed funding and training, benefiting over 1,400 women and 1,500 farmers.
- Startup Ecosystem Support: Awarding ₹12.45 crore to leading incubators in Tamil Nadu, benefiting 51 startups.
