India’s Cyber Risk Profile Intensifies with AI-Driven Threats: Trend Micro Report
Mumbai: India remains one of the most targeted countries globally, with a significant surge in cyber threats, according to Trend Micro’s 2025 Cyber Risk Report. The report reveals that India ranks 2nd globally in email threats and 3rd in malware detections.
Key Findings
- India contributed 6.9% of global email threats, with over 1.03 billion incidents recorded.
- The country accounted for 4.74% of global malware detections, with 19.3 million incidents reported.
- Banking, Financial Services, and Government sectors were the most targeted industries.
AI-Driven Threats
The report highlights the growing use of AI in cybercrime, including:
- Generative AI for disinformation campaigns and phishing
- Deepfakes and malicious digital twins making attacks more convincing
- AI-powered network defenders predicting and preventing cyberattacks
Recommendations
To lower cyber risk, organizations are urged to:
- Optimize security settings and leverage native sensors/third-party sources
- Verify and investigate risky events
- Conduct inventory of stale accounts and apply latest patches
