Rotary District 3233 Champions Elderly Wellbeing with Diwali Luncheon

Chennai: In a touching celebration of community and compassion, Rotary International District 3233 hosted the Rotary Golden Seniors Diwali Celebration Charitable Luncheon, a festive gathering dedicated to honoring senior citizens. Held at Aiyavoo Mahal in Aminjikarai, the event welcomed over 1,000 elders from across Chennai for an afternoon of joy, music, and heartfelt connection.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Rotarians from various clubs under District 3233 came together to celebrate the invaluable contributions of senior citizens. The initiative aimed to spread Diwali cheer while fostering a sense of belonging and appreciation among the elderly.

A standout moment of the luncheon was a live orchestra performance that brought back golden old melodies, stirring nostalgia and delight among attendees. Adding to the lively atmosphere, renowned orator Pulavar Ramalingam delivered a humorous and engaging address, captivating the audience with his wit and storytelling. Each guest received thoughtful gifts, enhancing the festive spirit and making the occasion truly memorable.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. S. Ve. Shekher, a respected theatre personality and social activist, alongside Rotary District Governor Rtn. D. Devendran, several Past District Governors, and senior Rotarians. The luncheon was chaired by Rtn. Srikumar, who led a dedicated team of volunteers in organizing the celebration.

Speaking at the event, District Governor Rtn. D. Devendran emphasized the importance of honoring elders, stating, “Our seniors are the pillars of our community. Through this initiative, Rotary reaffirms its commitment to creating a caring and inclusive society where they continue to feel respected, connected, and celebrated.”

Beyond entertainment, the luncheon addressed deeper issues such as loneliness and social isolation among the elderly, offering a platform for meaningful interaction and emotional support. The joy and gratitude expressed by participants underscored the impact of the initiative.
