SIAM Concludes 11th Safe Mobility Inter-School Competition and Annual Teachers’ Meet

Mumbai: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has successfully concluded the week-long 11th Safe Mobility Inter-School Road Safety Competition and its Annual Teachers’ Meet, reaffirming its commitment to road safety education among students and educators.

Organised under SIAM’s ‘सुरक्षित सफर (Safe Journey)’ initiative with CSR support from Suzuki Motorcycle, the competition was held in association with Gyan Mandir Public School, New Delhi, engaging over 2,000 students from 500 schools. A special workshop on road safety for teachers, conducted with Hindustan Times, saw participation from more than 400 educators. Winners of this year’s competitions were felicitated during the event.

Aligned with the Government’s ‘Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha’ campaign, the initiative encouraged students to share creative ideas promoting traffic discipline, safer streets, and community awareness. Since 2015, SIAM’s SAFE Mobility competitions have engaged thousands of students through activities such as poster-making, jingles, logo design, short films, and photography.

Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM, emphasised the need for a collective behavioural shift to reduce road fatalities, noting India’s disproportionate share of global road deaths despite having only 1% of the world’s vehicles.

Alok Jaitley, President, SAFE, highlighted the role of education in shaping responsible road users, stressing that habits formed early in schools influence entire households. Principals Rajesh Bano Preeya and Swarnima Luthra shared how students are now influencing parents to adopt safer practices such as obeying signals and wearing helmets.

The event also saw participation from HT Media, Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd., and SIAM leadership, underscoring the collaborative effort to build a culture of safe mobility across communities.
