Tamil Nadu Golf Federation presents Tablets India – TPL 2026 Premier League
Five-week team championship to tee off from Feb 25 at Cosmopolitan Club Chennai
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Golf Federation (TNGF) has officially announced the inaugural edition of the Tablets India – TNGF Premier League (TPL) 2026, a five-week members-only team golf championship scheduled from February 25 to March 25, 2026, at the Cosmopolitan Club, Chennai.
The announcement was made in the presence of K.C. Raghunathan, Chairman – Tablets India TNGF Premier League (TPL), along with Tournament Directors Raamasubramanian, A. Chandrasekharan, K. Sundar and Babu Dhandapani, and team owners.
Speaking on the occasion, Raghunathan said the league has been conceptualised to strengthen camaraderie within the golfing community through structured team competition, while maintaining high standards of sportsmanship. He added that TPL aims to become a defining fixture in Tamil Nadu’s golfing calendar.
Tournament Overview
The Tablets India TNGF Premier League 2026 is a 12-team competition conducted over five weeks. TNGF owns the Tablets India TNGF Premier League property and brand, with team ownership allotted annually after evaluation of applications.
The league is open exclusively to TNGF members who maintain a valid handicap under the Golf Handicap & Information Network (GHIN), as per TNGF rules.
Team Composition
Each of the 12 teams will consist of 16 players, structured as follows:
- 3 Category A players – Handicap 0 to 12
- 7 Category B players – Handicap 13 to 18
- 6 Category C players – Handicap 19 to 30
Each team will have two mandatory picks, while the remaining 14 players will be selected through an auction process, adding a strategic dimension to team formation. All players must participate in at least one qualifying round.
Handicap System
The TNFG Handicap Index System will identify the top 225 players maintaining their handicaps at GHIN for inclusion in the auction pool.
Maximum handicaps permitted:
- 24 for men (Blue tees)
- 20 for men (Red tees)
- 30 for women (Red tees)
Handicaps are frozen as on December 31, 2025, and will remain unchanged for the entire duration of the tournament. The freeze applies exclusively to the league.
Equipment & Logistics
Players are permitted to use buggies during the competition.
Game Formats & Schedule
All matches will be played under the Rules of Golf 2023 in Stroke Play format with Stableford scoring as the operating basis.
