India Charts Global OTT Ambition at WAVES Summit 2025 Roundtable
Mumbai: The WAVES Summit 2025 hosted a high-level Roundtable on ‘OTT & Digital-Driven Democratisation of Content Creation and Consumption’ at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The event brought together over 100 eminent personalities from the worlds of cinema, technology, policy, and venture capital.
The Roundtable was launched with the release of the report “Press Play – India’s OTT Story Goes Global,” jointly authored by AWS, Primus Partners, and Rolling Stone India. Shri Ashish Shelar, Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Heritage & IT, Government of Maharashtra, emphasized the importance of OTT platforms in transforming the entertainment industry.
Shri Shelar announced the government’s plan to launch a Marathi OTT platform and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting digital innovation and creative entrepreneurship. Shri Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, highlighted the role of WAVES OTT in empowering creators and providing a limitless digital platform for diverse content.
The Roundtable explored key themes, including public-private collaborations, scaling Indian media content for global markets, and the role of emerging technologies in OTT. The discussions focused on India’s potential to become a global storytelling hub and the importance of job creation, youth skilling, and future-ready infrastructure.
The event showcased India’s growing ambition in the OTT space, with a focus on democratizing content creation and consumption. With initiatives like WAVES OTT and government support, the industry is poised for significant growth and innovation.
