Naval Armament DG Visits VTU, Focus on Aerospace & Defence Initiatives

Bengaluru: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is strengthening its mission to prepare students for future roles in Aerospace and Defence by establishing a Center of Excellence (CoE) at its Muddenahalli Campus. The initiative aims to align academic programs, research, and industry partnerships with national capability-building goals.

Prakash Upadhayay, Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA), Indian Navy, visited VTU’s Nagarbhavi Campus to interact with faculty and researchers. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Cdr. Devendra Singh, Director – R&D (Aerospace and Defence), VTU, who emphasized the importance of academia–armed forces collaboration and proposed a formal MoU with the Indian Navy to accelerate indigenous capability building.

During an innovation showcase, DGONA reviewed hardware and software projects and engaged with startups in the Aerospace and Defence sector, commending their contributions to national technological advancement.

Highlighting Ministry of Defence initiatives that support startups and academia, DGONA welcomed VTU’s CoE and stressed its role in meeting evolving military needs. He advised VTU to pursue the MoU proposal with Naval Headquarters and assured support, while also encouraging opportunities for Naval personnel to pursue higher education and upskilling in Aerospace, Defence, and Quantum Technologies.

The program was also attended by Dr. Ajith Padyana, Director – Research and Innovation for Deep Technologies, VTU.
