Rajasthan Youth Association Continues Book Bank Initiative, Supports Over 8,000 Students Annually
Chennai: Rajasthan Youth Association (RYA) organised its 63rd Annual Book Distribution Function at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai, continuing its Book Bank initiative that provides academic textbooks to students pursuing higher education.
According to the association, the Book Bank Project has benefited more than 1.60 lakh students across 100 colleges since its launch in 1964. The initiative currently supports more than 8,000 students every year.
The event was inaugurated by G.L. Gnanatheva, Minister (Commerce), Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka. Ashok Kumar Mundra, Secretary of D.G. Vaishnav College, and Rajesh Surana, Founder and CEO of Med Code Service Inc., attended as guests. Gouthamchand Jain, former Chairman of the RYA Book Bank, was felicitated during the function.
Addressing the gathering, Vivek Bomb, President of Rajasthan Youth Association, said the Book Bank Project was launched to ensure that students are not deprived of education due to the cost of textbooks. He said the initiative has continued to expand over the past six decades with the support of members, donors and volunteers.
Speaking at the event, G.L. Gnanatheva said educational initiatives that reduce financial barriers help improve access to higher education and contribute to the development of future generations. He appreciated the association’s continued efforts in supporting students through the Book Bank Project.
Presenting the 2026–27 Book Bank report, Bipin M. Jain, Chairman of the Book Bank, said textbooks are distributed to students pursuing Arts, Science and Engineering courses across colleges in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. He also explained the functioning of the Book Bank through a presentation.
Ashok Kumar Mundra and Rajesh Surana addressed the students and acknowledged the contribution of the Book Bank Project towards supporting higher education since 1964.
The association also honoured donors and individuals who have contributed to the initiative during the event.
