Tamil Perspective Highlighted at UN Sustainable Health and Well-Being Summit
Chennai: Sathish Kumar Santhanam brought a Tamil perspective to the global discussion on resilience, sustainability and human well-being at the Second World Summit on Sustainable Health and Well-Being 2026.
Speaking on “From Our Roots to Our Future: Building for Generations,” he highlighted the role of the built environment in creating healthier, safer and more resilient communities.
Drawing on Tamil heritage, Sathish Kumar Santhanam cited Kallanai as an example of long-term engineering and public purpose, while describing the Brihadisvara Temple as a reflection of scientific knowledge, architectural precision and enduring design.
He also recalled the Tamil classical phrase “Yaadhum Oore; Yaavarum Kelir”, meaning “Every place is our home. Everyone is our kin.” The phrase, written by poet Kaniyan Pungundranar, was also cited by former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam during his address to the European Parliament.
The address also focused on future-ready communities built around water security, clean energy, food resilience, technology, nature, affordability and human connection.
Sathish Kumar Santhanam said the next advances in human longevity would depend not only on medicine but also on the built environment created today.
