759 Students Participate in Murugappa Science Quiz Across Sivagangai and Pudukottai
Chennai: The third edition of the Murugappa Science Quiz, organised by the Murugappa Science Centre, an initiative of the A.M.M. Foundation, concluded with the participation of 759 students from 253 schools across Sivagangai and Pudukottai districts.
Held on August 19 and 20, the annual inter-school quiz brought together students from Classes 6, 7 and 8. The competition focused on the application of scientific concepts, encouraging students to use analytical thinking and problem-solving skills rather than relying on rote learning.
The competition was conducted in two stages. Students first participated in a written preliminary round, following which the top six teams from each district advanced to the on-stage district final. The quiz was designed and conducted by the X Quiz IT team, Chennai.
Sivagangai District Final
The Sivagangai District Final was held on August 19 and was attended by Subramaniam Venkatachalam, Head – Aerospace and Defence, Carborundum Universal Ltd, as Chief Guest.
St. Joseph Middle School, Devakottai, represented by Iruthaya Christy K, secured the first place with 7 points and received ₹18,000.
PUMS, Veppangulam, represented by Ashwindh A, Sukreev K and Yadhish V, finished second with 6 points and received ₹12,000.
GGHSS, Kallal, represented by Dhanya T, Dharshika M and Thulasi P, secured third place with 6 points and received ₹6,000.
Speaking about the event, Subramaniam Venkatachalam said the quiz was intended to encourage curiosity among students and provide opportunities for young minds to question, think and explore.
Pudukottai District Final
The Pudukottai District Final was conducted on August 20. K. Shanmugam, Chief Educational Officer, Pudukottai, and T. Raju, District Education Officer, Pudukottai, attended the event.
GGHSS, Keeranagalam, represented by Atchaya Sri A, Hasini L and Prakanya M, won the district final with 8 points and received ₹18,000.
CMS, Santhaipettai, represented by Rakshan, James Aafreen A and Valliammai B, finished second with 8 points and received ₹12,000.
MHS, Rajagopalapuram, represented by Abarna P, Dino Elgin V R and Berin Herschel, secured third place with 8 points and received ₹6,000.
Spot prizes and audience prizes were also awarded during the two district finals.
The Murugappa Science Quiz is conducted annually with the objective of making science learning more engaging while encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, reading and learning beyond textbooks.
