BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals Launches Uyir Preventive Fertility Clinic

Chennai: BirthRight Fertility by Rainbow Children’s Hospitals has launched Uyir Fertility Clinic in Chennai, an initiative focused on preventive fertility care and early reproductive health assessment. The launch was marked by the presence of Indian actress Nayanthara.

The clinic aims to encourage individuals and couples to understand their reproductive health before fertility becomes a challenge. Its approach includes early fertility assessment, lifestyle guidance, timely intervention and fertility preservation, alongside assisted reproductive treatments such as IUI and IVF when clinically indicated.

The initiative comes as fertility trends and reproductive health have gained greater attention in Tamil Nadu. According to the latest Sample Registration System data cited by the organisation, India’s Total Fertility Rate has declined to 1.9, below the replacement level of 2.1, while Tamil Nadu’s fertility rate stands at 1.3.

Uyir primarily caters to individuals and couples in their 20s and 30s, including those planning pregnancies in the future, newly married couples, people seeking fertility assessments and those considering fertility preservation options such as egg or embryo freezing.

Dr. Madhumitha S, Reproductive Medicine and Surgery Consultant, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals, said fertility should be considered as part of reproductive health rather than only when conception becomes difficult. She said fertility assessment can involve understanding an individual’s medical and reproductive history, lifestyle and fertility goals, along with appropriate screening.

She added that depending on individual circumstances, fertility care may involve lifestyle changes, management of underlying conditions or fertility preservation options such as egg and embryo freezing.

Fertility can be affected by several lifestyle, medical and reproductive factors, including stress, inadequate sleep, obesity, poor nutrition, PCOS, endometriosis, male-factor infertility and delayed parenthood.

The clinic’s preventive care approach includes fertility assessment, personalised counselling, lifestyle and nutrition guidance, male and female fertility evaluation, management of conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis, and fertility preservation.

Where appropriate, individuals may be advised on natural conception through lifestyle changes and treatment of underlying conditions. IUI and IVF are also available when clinically indicated.

Dr. Ramya M.R, Consultant – Reproductive Medicine & Infertility, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals, said Tamil Nadu’s declining fertility rate and changing patterns of parenthood have made early conversations around reproductive health increasingly relevant.

She noted that individual fertility journeys differ and that treatment decisions should be based on each person’s or couple’s medical and reproductive profile. According to her, IUI and IVF remain important treatment options but should be recommended according to individual clinical needs rather than as an automatic first step.

Uyir provides fertility services including IUI, IVF, egg and embryo freezing and other assisted reproductive procedures. The clinic is supported by reproductive medicine and embryology infrastructure for fertility evaluation, assisted reproductive procedures and fertility preservation.

Speaking at the launch, Gunasekhar C, Cluster Head, Rainbow Children’s Hospital Chennai, said the initiative seeks to expand the focus of fertility care beyond treatment and towards prevention, preservation and personalised support.

With the launch of Uyir, BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals aims to encourage individuals and couples in Chennai to consider reproductive health and fertility planning at an earlier stage.
