HITS Holds 17th Convocation; 2,732 Students Receive Degrees
Chennai: The Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) held its 17th Convocation Ceremony in Chennai, with 2,732 students receiving their degrees.
Justice M.M. Sundresh, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor of HITS, in the presence of Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. Aby Sam, Executive Director; Mr. Enid Jacob Verghese, Associate Director; and Dr. Vikas Misra, Vice Chancellor.
Of the graduating students, 659 were postgraduate students and 67 were Ph.D. scholars, while the remaining graduates were from undergraduate programmes. Ninety-two students were recognised as rank holders for their academic performance. The graduating batch also included 27 foreign nationals, who received their graduation certificates at the ceremony.
Honorary Doctorates Conferred
HITS conferred honorary doctorates on Gokul V. Subramaniam, President, Intel India, and Dr. Oscar Concessao, Architect, Oscar & Ponni Rahul Architects, in recognition of their contributions in their respective fields.
Addressing the graduating students, Justice M.M. Sundresh emphasised the contribution of families, friends, teachers and others in shaping an individual’s achievements. He also urged students to give back to society and remain connected with their alma mater and professors.
Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese said the convocation marked the beginning of a new phase for the graduates and encouraged them to remain curious, embrace challenges, uphold integrity and continue learning as they begin their professional careers.
HITS Expands Academic Programmes
HITS, which has entered its 41st year since inception and completed 18 years as a Deemed to be University, currently offers 84 undergraduate programmes, 62 postgraduate programmes and five diploma-level programmes, along with Ph.D. programmes.
The programmes cover disciplines including Technology, Arts, Science, Law, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Humanities.
According to the university, 257 companies participated in campus recruitment during the 2025–26 academic year, with 85.60% of students securing job offers. The average CTC was ₹4.75 lakh per annum, while the highest CTC was ₹12 lakh per annum.
Companies listed among the recruiters included Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft, Siemens, Cognizant, Capgemini, TCS and Wipro.
Hindustan Centre for Future Skills Inaugurated
The Hindustan Centre for Future Skills (HCFS) was also inaugurated by Justice M.M. Sundresh during the event.
The centre has been established in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Ethnotech Academy. It is intended to provide training and certification opportunities in technology and other emerging areas.
The centre’s focus areas include Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Robotic Process Automation, Industrial Automation and Semiconductor Design.
The centre will also facilitate internships, capstone projects, certification programmes and skill-development initiatives. Faculty members are expected to engage with industry experts as part of the initiative.
Through Centres of Excellence developed with technology companies, students will have access to practical training and industry-oriented learning in the identified technology domains.
