Andhra Pradesh Records Sharp Rise in Renewable Energy Capacity Addition in 2025–26
Mumbai: Andhra Pradesh has recorded a significant increase in renewable energy capacity addition during 2025–26, according to data presented by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in the Lok Sabha.
The data was shared in response to an Unstarred Question raised by Dr. M. K. Vishnu Prasad, Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu.
According to the Ministry’s reply, Andhra Pradesh added 3,865.63 MW of renewable energy capacity during 2025–26, compared with 1,085.15 MW added during 2024–25. This represents nearly a four-fold increase in renewable energy capacity additions within a year.
Capacity Addition Over the Years
The data also indicates a gradual increase in renewable energy development in the state over the past five years.
- 2021–22: 125.42 MW
- 2022–23: 148.62 MW
- 2023–24: 59.15 MW
- 2024–25: 1,085.15 MW
- 2025–26: 3,865.63 MW
The figures show that renewable energy additions remained relatively low between 2021–22 and 2023–24, before crossing 1 GW in 2024–25 and rising further to nearly 3.9 GW during 2025–26.
Focus on Renewable Energy
According to the press release, the increase in capacity additions has been attributed to measures including investor-friendly policies, faster project approvals, improved implementation, and investments in renewable energy infrastructure.
National Renewable Energy Milestone
The Union Government also informed Parliament that India has achieved the milestone of sourcing 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, reaching the target five years ahead of the 2030 deadline.
The government further stated that the country remains on track to achieve 500 GW of installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030.
The latest data highlights Andhra Pradesh’s growing contribution to India’s renewable energy sector as the country continues to expand its non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity.
