Rajalakshmi Engineering College Launches Industry-Integrated Off-Campus Engineering Campus at RMZ Millenia, Chennai
Chennai: Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) inaugurated its new off-campus engineering facility, REC Off Campus @ RMZ Millenia, at RMZ Millenia Business Park in Perungudi, Chennai, on Thursday.
The new campus, located on Levels 6 and 7 of Tower 5 at RMZ Millenia on Chennai’s OMR IT Corridor, has been established within a corporate and technology ecosystem that houses multinational companies, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), technology firms, startups, and innovation-focused enterprises.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ashok Krish, Vice President and Global Head of AI Practice at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), who participated as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Dr. Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson of Rajalakshmi Institutions, in the presence of Abhay Meganathan, Vice Chairman of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, and Tejashree Abhay Meganathan, Executive Director of Rajalakshmi Engineering College.
According to the institution, the campus has been designed to integrate academic learning with industry exposure and workplace-oriented experiences. The facility will initially offer undergraduate programmes in four disciplines:
- Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
- Information Technology (IT)
- Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AIDS)
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML)
The campus is expected to accommodate approximately 360 students.
Speaking at the event, Ashok Krish highlighted the importance of preparing graduates for developments in Artificial Intelligence, data-driven technologies, and emerging innovation ecosystems. He noted the need for stronger collaboration between academia and industry to support workforce readiness.
Institution representatives stated that the initiative aims to provide students with opportunities to learn within a technology and corporate environment from the early stages of their academic journey.
The campus includes facilities and initiatives focused on:
- Industry-integrated learning
- Corporate-style learning and collaborative workspaces
- Advanced laboratories
- Exposure to multinational companies, startups, and GCCs
- Industry mentorship programmes
- Experiential learning opportunities
- International exposure and internship opportunities
- Skill development in emerging technologies
As part of the inauguration programme, REC organised panel discussions involving representatives from industry, academia, and government sectors.
One discussion, titled “Building Tamil Nadu’s AI Talent Pipeline: From Classrooms to Careers,” featured speakers from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), ICT Academy, and Nokia.
Another session, “AI as a Growth Engine: Accelerating Tamil Nadu’s Journey to a Trillion-Dollar Economy,” included participants from Algorithm Health Ltd., Ford Business Solutions India, and IITM Pravartak.
A third panel discussion, “India’s Semiconductor Mission: Synergizing Industry, Academia, and Government for Building an Indigenous Semiconductor Ecosystem,” brought together experts from NIT Delhi, Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, Tessolve Semiconductor, and Unisvision Systems/Selenean Technologies.
The discussions focused on Artificial Intelligence, semiconductor development, industry-academia collaboration, talent development, and emerging technology sectors.
The event also included a media interaction session with the institution’s leadership and the chief guest, followed by a guided tour of the newly established campus.
The launch of REC Off Campus @ RMZ Millenia introduces a new engineering education facility within Chennai’s corporate technology corridor, bringing academic programmes and industry exposure together in a shared environment.
