Sricity International University Launched in Andhra Pradesh; Introduces Work-Study Dual Model to Bridge Academia-Industry Gap

Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, July 2:Sricity International University (SIU) was officially launched at its Interim Campus in Sri City, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, on Wednesday. The university was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resource Development, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and RTG, Nara Lokesh, in the presence of SIU’s Global Advisory Council, Governing Board, and industry partners.

The university has introduced a Work-Study Dual Model, an education system designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills and improve employability by integrating academic learning with practical work experience.

Addressing the Employability Challenge

According to information shared by the university, India produces over nine million graduates annually, but only about 42.6% are considered employable. It also noted that many graduates work in roles below their qualifications, while more than 80% of employers report significant skill gaps. SIU said the new model aims to address these challenges by aligning higher education more closely with industry requirements.

Work-Study Dual Model

Under the Work-Study Dual Model, students will spend approximately one-third of their time attending classes on campus, while the remaining period will be dedicated to internships with industry partners.

Students will receive a minimum monthly stipend of ₹10,000 from their first year of study. The university stated that the stipend is expected to increase as students gain experience and improve their productivity. By the end of a four-year degree programme, students are expected to graduate with more than two years of industry work experience.

Industry-Aligned Curriculum

The university said its curriculum has been co-designed with industry partners and will be updated annually to keep pace with the evolving artificial intelligence-driven industrial landscape. The objective is to ensure students acquire the knowledge and skills required by future employers.

Entrepreneurship Support

SIU has also established an incubation centre, Station-S, on its campus to support entrepreneurship. Around 10 startups have already begun operations through the incubation centre with support from Gnan Circle Ventures, a Category-I Venture Capital Fund.

Minister Highlights Andhra Pradesh’s Role

Speaking at the launch, Nara Lokesh said young people possess the ability and ambition to succeed, and that education should directly connect students with employment opportunities. He added that Andhra Pradesh aims to play a leading role in improving employability through such initiatives.

The minister also highlighted Sri City’s industrial ecosystem, where more than 200 companies from over 30 countries operate across various sectors, providing students with opportunities to gain practical experience alongside their academic studies.

Chairman’s Remarks

Srini Raju, Chairman of the Sricity Education Foundation and SIU Governing Board, said students completing a four-year degree would graduate with over two years of real-world work experience through paid internships. He added that the university also focuses on developing life skills and an entrepreneurial mindset alongside industry-oriented education.
