SRM Easwari Inaugurates ABB Robotics Global Excellence Center
Chennai: SRM Group of Institutions’s Easwari Engineering College has launched India’s first Global Excellence Center for Robotics in partnership with Switzerland-based ABB Robotics, marking a significant step in advancing robotics and automation education in the country.
The facility, established on the college campus, is the third such centre globally by ABB Robotics and is designed as a hub for cutting-edge research, skill development, and industry collaboration.
The centre is equipped with advanced AI-driven robotic systems and intelligent automation labs, featuring applications such as 3D pin picking, palletising, spot and arc welding, service and maintenance units, and virtual reality-based simulation cells. It also integrates emerging technologies including autonomous mobile robots, generative AI, vision systems, Internet of Things (IoT), PLC automation, and digital twin solutions, aligning with the evolving needs of smart manufacturing.
Officials said the initiative will provide students from multiple engineering disciplines—including mechanical, electronics, and computer science—with hands-on exposure to real-world industrial technologies. The centre is also expected to support interdisciplinary research, foster innovation, and encourage the development of technology-driven startups.
Speaking on the occasion, SRM leadership highlighted that the collaboration brings global-standard infrastructure and expertise to Indian students, enabling early engagement in research and innovation. The initiative is expected to strengthen the institution’s focus on practical learning while enhancing employability in high-growth technology sectors.
Representatives from ABB Robotics noted that as automation and robotics continue to transform manufacturing globally, there is a growing need to equip students with industry-relevant skills. The centre aims to bridge this gap by providing access to world-class technology and enabling collaboration between academia and industry.
The Global Excellence Center is also expected to attract consultancy projects and partnerships with manufacturing firms, further strengthening ties between education and industry. It will support advancements in areas such as predictive maintenance, embedded systems, and supply chain automation.
With this initiative, Easwari Engineering College aims to position itself as a key contributor to India’s growing ecosystem in robotics, AI, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
