UPES Partners with Google Cloud to Launch AI Campus, Expand AI-Driven Learning Initiatives
New initiative to integrate artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and industry-aligned learning across academic disciplines
Chennai: UPES has announced a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud to launch an AI Campus initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and intelligent automation into teaching, learning, research, and innovation across multiple academic disciplines.
The initiative will cover areas including engineering, computer science, business, law, design, health sciences, liberal studies, and media. According to the university, the programme forms part of its broader strategy to incorporate AI into curriculum development, teaching methodologies, research, and industry engagement.
As part of the collaboration, UPES will deploy Google Workspace for Education Plus across its academic ecosystem. The rollout is expected to benefit more than 19,000 students, faculty members, and staff by providing digital tools for collaboration, learning, research, and academic activities.
In addition, more than 10,000 students will receive access to Gemini Enterprise for Education, Google’s generative AI platform designed for educational institutions. The technology is expected to support the development of AI-assisted research tools, teaching applications, workflow automation, and academic support systems.
A key component of the partnership is the introduction of an industry-integrated B.Tech programme developed in collaboration with Google Cloud. The four-year curriculum will include practical exposure to cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and emerging technologies. Students enrolled in the programme will have opportunities to earn Google Cloud certifications, GEAR credentials, and complete modules from the DeepMind AI curriculum.
To support research and experiential learning, UPES and Google Cloud will also establish a Google Center of Excellence (CoE) on campus. The centre will provide access to live laboratories, industry-led projects, hackathons, research support, and hands-on learning opportunities. It will also focus on exploring real-world AI applications and agentic AI use cases using Google technologies.
Dr. Abhishek Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Success) at UPES, said the initiative represents an important step in integrating AI technologies into the university’s academic framework and providing students with exposure to industry-relevant tools and learning opportunities.
Vaibhav Kumar Srivastava, India Head – Edtechs & Education at Google India, said the collaboration will support AI skill development among students and faculty while making UPES part of the Digital Campus on Google Cloud (DCGC 4.0) programme.
According to UPES, the AI Campus initiative is intended to equip students with practical experience in AI technologies, industry-recognised certifications, and opportunities for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The university said the programme is part of its ongoing efforts to expand collaborations with global technology companies and strengthen AI-focused education and research capabilities.
