Sri Lanka Sees Record Tourism Surge; India Tops Arrivals

Chennai: Sri Lanka welcomed over 1.7 million tourists from January to September 2025, with India contributing 375,292 arrivals — 22% of the total. Tourism earnings crossed USD 2.3 billion by August, driven by visa-free entry and strong air connectivity, especially from South India.

To boost engagement, Sri Lanka Tourism hosted roadshows and networking evenings in Madurai, Coimbatore, and Chennai, showcasing the island’s diverse attractions and inviting Indian travellers and investors. Led by senior ministers and over 40 Sri Lankan stakeholders, the events drew 200+ participants in each city and featured cultural performances to highlight Sri Lanka’s rich heritage.

The initiative reinforces Sri Lanka’s commitment to positioning itself as a year-round destination for leisure, MICE, and spiritual travel, with a focus on deepening ties with Southern India.
