Honda Cars India Unveils Growth Roadmap to 2030, Showcases New Honda City in Chennai

Chennai: Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the Indian market and outlined its growth roadmap through 2030, highlighting India as one of Honda’s top three priority markets globally.

The company said its future strategy will focus on strengthening competitiveness through an expanded product portfolio and improved cost efficiencies. As part of this roadmap, Honda plans to introduce new models in the sub-4-metre SUV and mid-size SUV segments from 2028 onwards.

Honda also announced that its first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) for the Indian market will be launched during the second half of FY 2026–27. The company confirmed that road testing of the electric vehicle has already begun in India.

At an event held in Chennai, Honda showcased the New Honda City, featuring updated styling, new technology, enhanced safety features, and both petrol and strong hybrid powertrain options. The company also presented the All-New Honda ZR-V, a premium hybrid SUV that has made its India debut.

Speaking at the event, Kunal Behl, Vice President – Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., said India continues to play a key role in Honda’s global growth strategy and that the company has planned six strategic launches during the year.

He added that Tamil Nadu contributes around 12% of Honda’s domestic sales, making it one of the company’s most important markets. According to him, models such as the Honda City, Honda Elevate, and Honda Amaze have received a positive response from customers in the state.

New Honda City

The updated Honda City features a redesigned exterior with Signature Blade Eye LED lighting, a connected front light bar, new alloy wheels, and a new Crystal Black Pearl colour option.

Inside, the sedan is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, USB-C charging ports, and dual-tone interiors.

The model is powered by either:

  • A self-charging two-motor strong hybrid e:HEV system producing 126 PS, 253 Nm of torque, and a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.26 km/l.
  • A 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed CVT, producing 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque, with claimed fuel efficiency of 17.77 km/l (MT) and 17.97 km/l (CVT).

The New Honda City is also equipped with Honda SENSING ADAS, including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System, Lead Car Departure Notification, and Auto High Beam.

All-New Honda ZR-V

Honda also introduced the All-New Honda ZR-V, a premium hybrid SUV that will be imported into India from Japan as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).

The SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre Sports Hybrid system delivering a combined output of 184 PS, 315 Nm of torque, and a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.79 km/l.

The ZR-V features full LED lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, a premium all-black interior, leather upholstery, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker Bose Premium Surround Sound System.

Safety features include Honda SENSING ADAS, 8 airbags, a 360-degree camera, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Descent Control, and Driver Attention Monitor.

Honda said the ZR-V will be available in four exterior colour options, and customer bookings have commenced across Honda dealerships in India. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in July 2026.

Both the New Honda City and the Honda ZR-V will be offered with standard and extended warranty packages, including warranty coverage for hybrid system components and lithium-ion batteries.

The announcements form part of Honda Cars India’s long-term strategy to strengthen its product lineup and expand its presence in the Indian passenger vehicle market.
