Assam: JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd. has commenced construction of its first integrated cement plant in Assam, marking the company’s entry into the Northeast region.

Named Project Kamakshi, the plant is being established at Umrangso in Dima Hasao district, with an investment of ₹11,000 crore, including the mining lease. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The proposed facility will have a cement production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), supported by a clinkerisation unit with a capacity of 1 million tonnes. The project will also include railway sidings to support transportation and distribution.

The plant is targeted for completion by the financial year 2029 and is expected to generate employment for more than 2,000 people. It will primarily cater to the growing cement demand in the Northeast.
